Wireless Trends
Look around you…people are using wireless everywhere you look. You can’t walk into a coffee shop or walk down the street without seeing consumers connecting to the internet using wireless devices. The iPhone, Blackberry, and iPad are just the beginning. For the first time in history, wireless phone calls are decreasing in favor of texting, email and the use of mobile applications to access the internet. This trend is known as the “mobile web.”

Behind the scenes, wireless companies are scrambling to improve coverage to permit these devices to work. The amount of new “wireless infrastructure” under construction is dramatically increasing and will continue to explode as consumers make the transition from voice to data. Having access to the mobile web is becoming as important as power, water, & cable to the consumer. Over the past 10 years, wireless carriers were focused on providing service along major roads to avoid dropped calls. In the future, wireless infrastructure must be located closer to where consumers live.

As a result, local governments have a unique opportunity to take advantage of this growth by leasing land on schools, parks, municipal properties for the development of stealth wireless infrastructure in exchange for millions of dollars of annual recurring revenue. Schools, parks, and police/fire stations are perfect locations for the placement of these towers and are often the only viable location in residential areas.

The expansion of faster, reliable wireless networks using the latest technology known as “4G” will empower consumers with new choices to connect to the internet at home.
